PPPM Hosts Committee Meeting and Attended 2017 Mega Sales 2017 Carnival Organized by Ministry of Domestic Trade (KPDNKK)

On 24 November 2017, The Association for Consumer Protection Malaysia (PPPM) held a national committee meeting at Syuen Hotel, in Ipoh, Perak. They were also invited by the Ministry of Domestic Trade (KPDNKK) to attend the 2017 Mega Sales Carnival (Karnival Jualan Mega 2017) held the next day.

Founded in 2009, PPPM is a non-government organisation open to all Malaysians above the age of 18. Its purpose is to protect Malaysian consumers, listen to their complaints, assist the government in monitoring the markets, and act as the bridge between consumers and the government. It has branches across Malaysia, in Perak, Johor, Selangor, and Pahang. PPPM’s chairperson is its founder, Dato’ Mohd Firdaus Abdullah.

On 3 November, PPPM had its annual members’ meeting, where chairperson and members from branches around Malaysia met to discuss the organisation’s agenda.

On 24 November, another national committee meeting was held. The agenda this time was to gather all state representatives for a dialogue about consumer rights. In this meeting, delegates discussed PPPM’s future position, new roles, innovations, and ways to improve the credibility, and influence of the organisation to elevate consumers’ protection in Malaysia.

In the meeting, extensive reports were presented by delegates concerning pressing issues such as competition strategy, globalisation, e-commerce, the improvement of consumer protection and updates about each branch and department’s work.

Chairperson Dato’ Mohd Firdaus Abdullah also shared key achievements of PPPM since its founding, and its vision for the future.

Dato’ shares that as globalisation progresses, listening to consumer complaints and improving transparency in consumer protection are the main goals of PPPM moving forward.

After the national committee meeting on 24 November, PPPM was also invited by the Ministry of Domestic Trade (KPDNKK) to attend the 2017 Mega Sales Carnival (Karnival Jualan Mega 2017) held on 25 November.

The main goal of said carnival is to allow consumers to purchase goods at reasonable prices while stimulating the national economy. The Ministry of Domestic Trade also hopes to introduce PPPM to more consumers through the carnival, improving consumer rights awareness.

The Mega Sales Carnival was held in 2016 in Johor Bahru, and generated RM11 million in sales volume, successfully giving a boost to the national economy.

This time, the carnival is held in conjunction with the Perak Tourism Year, introducing the state of Perak to Malaysians through the event. Vendors and businesses from around Malaysia would gather in Perak to offer the best deals to consumers.

PPPM fully supports this carnival, and wishes to introduce itself to the public as a non-profit organisation that fights for the welfare of consumers.

The 2017 Mega Sales Carnival (Karnival Jualan Mega 2017) opening ceremony was officiated by Minister Of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives, and Consumerism Dato' Seri  Hamzah Bin Zainudin and Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato' Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
